Devil in Winter (Wallflowers #3)
368 pages
A devil's bargain
Easily the shyest Wallflower, Evangeline Jenner stands to become the wealthiest, once her inheritance comes due. Because she must first escape the clutches of her unscrupulous relatives, Evie has approached the rake Viscount St. Vincent with a most outrageous proposition: marriage!
Sebastian's reputation is so dangerous that thirty seconds alone with him will ruin any maiden's good name. Still, this bewitching chit appeared, unchaperoned, on his doorstep to offer her hand. Certainly an aristocrat with a fine eye for beauty could do far worse.
But Evie's proposal comes with a condition: no lovemaking after their wedding night. She will never become just another of the dashing libertine's callously discarded broken hearts -- which means Sebastian will simply have to work harder at his seductions...or perhaps surrender his own heart for the very first time in the name of true love.
This was a fun read. I saw a review of the book here and decided to see if i could get my hands on it. In addition to what the blurb tells you about the couple, what i really liked about this book was the dynamic between Evie and Sebastian. Despite his reputation as a skirt chaser and his own denials when it comes to Evie, he really does look after her a lot and saves her life - in more than one way. And despite all her statements about how she doesn't respect him and doesn't want anything to do with him, she cant get enough of him.
How much did i like this book? Lets see now. I started reading this at work (Yes, the joys of reading a book online - no one knows whether you're working or waiting for 5 pm) I got engrossed enough to not want to move until 8 - a good three hours more than i would ever want to stay at work. And then i liked it enough to run back home from a promising Friday night party just to find out how Evie and Sebastian work it out (you know they will work it out, but its the how that makes this book interesting)
Watching both of these characters grow you feel like you could know them - they could be friends of yours. I definitely will be reading this one again sometime. Its one of those feel good books.
And it was a fun enough read that i went back and tried to find the next Wallflower book online for free -
Scandal in Spring (Wallflowers #4)
374 pages
Daisy is horrified. A Bowman never admits defeat, and she decides to do whatever it takes to marry someone . . . anyone . . . other than Matthew. But she doesn't count on Matthew's unexpected charm . . . or the blazing sensuality that soon flares beyond both their control. And Daisy discovers that the man she has always hated just might turn out to be the man of her dreams.
But right at the moment of sweet surrender, a scandalous secret is uncovered . . . one that could destroy both Matthew and a love more passionate and irresistible than Daisy's wildest fantasies
This one is about Daisy, who in Devil in Winter kisses Cam Rohan at the club. I started reading this book assuming then that the story would be about Cam and Daisy but again was pleasantly surprised. Lisa Kleypas has a knack for making the story seem so simple and yet something you don't wanna put down till the last page.
Daisy is a dreamer who spends her life in books. Her father wants her to get married to Matthew Swift who works with him and whom he considers a son. Daisy doesn't like (or should we say Hate) the Matthew she knows so far. But as her prospective grooms, Matthew and the rest of England congregate at Stone Cross Park, she realises that Matthew is the man for her. Matthew dearest has been in love with Daisy from day one, but his not so perfect past (which as you correctly guessed does come back to haunt him at the end of the book) and his own convictions lead him to believe that Daisy deserves someone better than himself. Some seducing, lot of sweet talk and other activities that would be spoilers if i told you now, everything is ok in paradise and Daisy get to live her fairy tale life in the end
There's no other way to describe these books than Sweet not a word i would ever use, but one very apt here. You can actually imagine every scene that plays out in books, even though the author doesn't waste paper on describing the scenery.

I am so glad that you enjoyed reading Devil in Winter and that you read more! Lisa Kleypas is one of my absolute favourites, especially for historical romance!
I've been having a bit of a look around it you are getting started on some really fun series like Dark Hunters, Sookie Stackhouse etc! I'll definitely be back.
This whole series is fantastic and I loved it so much I even followed the next series that has Cam in it from Scandal in Spring LOL which started the Hathaway series
Thanks Marg. I think this is my first historical Romance. I didn't think this was a genre i would be interested in, but now i'm looking forward to reading more of it - and especially Lisa Kleypas. I like her style of writing.
Thanks Sarai - i definitely will look out for the Hathaway Series - i quite liked Cam in Devil in Winter
